A handsome late Victorian Windsor armchair, made in England circa 1880 from a combination of oak and elm with a generously proportioned elm saddle seat, prized by Windsor chairmakers for its resistance to splitting.

The high hoop back frames a pierced, fretwork-carved splat flanked by turned spindles, while the shaped arms rest on elegantly turned baluster supports. The legs are joined by an ‘H’ stretcher, adding strength to the base. Throughout, the timber has developed a rich, golden oak colour with attractive figuring in the seat.

This is a broad arm Windsor, meaning the arm bow sits wide of the seat for extra comfort — a desirable variant among Windsor chair collectors and often associated with the Thames Valley chair-making tradition. The chair presents in good, solid condition, with honest age, some old repairs, and patina consistent with over a century of use, and is fully sound for everyday seating.

A versatile piece, equally at home as a statement armchair at the head of a dining table, a reading chair, or a striking accent piece in a hallway or study. Would also suit anyone building a collection of antique Windsor or country chairs.

A fine 18th century Welsh oak cwpwrdd deuddarn — a traditional two-part Welsh dresser cupboard — dating to circa 1750–1780. The upper section features a dentil-carved cornice above a pair of fielded doors with distinctive scalloped panel tops, opening to reveal a fitted interior with two miniature drawers on one side. The lower section comprises a pair of oak-fronted drawers with swan-neck brass handles above two further fielded panel doors, all raised on shaped bracket feet.

The piece has replacement brass door knobs and working locks with brass escutcheons, and shows an attractive, honest colour and patina to the front timbers consistent with age and long use. The reverse displays plank construction typical of vernacular Welsh oak furniture of the period, with natural surface staining. In very good condition throughout.

This is a good, characterful example of a Welsh cwpwrdd deuddarn of useful smaller proportions, well suited as a striking piece of storage furniture in a kitchen, dining room or hallway.

A fine 18th century French provincial oak enfilade, buffet, or dresser base, dating to circa 1760 and attributed to the Breton/Western French region. Of substantial proportions, the shaped top with rounded corners sits above a case fitted with two panelled cupboard doors flanking a bank of three drawers, each centred with a star parquetry motif. The doors and drawer fronts retain their original ornate wrought iron rat-tail hardware, including lock escutcheons and iron drop handles. Raised on cabriole legs terminating in wonderful scrolled feet, with a shaped and carved apron running the full width of the piece. The oak throughout has developed a rich, deep patina with honest wear consistent with age and genuine use, and the piece has a two-plank shelved interior.

Formerly in the collection of noted Melbourne dealer Graham Geddes, this enfilade combines strong French provincial form with confident carving — well suited as a dresser base, sideboard, buffet, or serving cabinet, it is ready for the home with a lovely wax finish.

A fine and well proportioned English Windsor armchair C.1840. The chair features a nicely figured saddled elm seat, paired with a pierced yew-wood splat, hoop back and arm rail. The back is constructed with turned yew-wood spindles - a sign of quality - and stands on turned legs united by a crinoline stretcher.

A lovely quality, honest Windsor with all the hallmarks of higher-quality provincial English chair making.
